The Northport Weekly of 2010-11
The "Northport Weekly" is a weekly newspaper produced by a combination of 4th and 5th grade students. They meet every Tuesday and Thursday morning during their Language Arts block and begin with a board meeting. They are appointed a new Chief Editor each week to lead the meeting where they learn to share and respect each others' thoughts and opinions. They let each other know their plans for their own page and set off to work. Through the use of classroom computers, library computers, a library scanner, two black and white printers, and one color, they work diligently and efficiently, They deliver over twenty editions to teachers and administrators in the school.

Zach and Austin work together on Zach's "School Schedule" with Austin also one of the leaders in distribution.

Sarah has produced some inciteful editorials, such as "Shunning" and "Empathy."

Holly draws on her love and talent at poetry to gather poems from students in other grades.
She feels poems allow her to sense what other people feel. |

Gwe has taken up and interest in providing a "Riddle Page."

Chris has been researching different types of animals and producing interesting pictures and facts. This week we learned about the Wooly Mammoth.
