Student of the Week: Austin Agosa! What a guy! Austin, I am so happy to have you in my class this year. And you have really worked hard to improve in all areas.

Spelling: Changing y to i
Grammar: Comparing with adjectives

Science: Ecosystems
Social Studies: Human geography
Parents:
I would ask you to take note of “A-Team” listed above. It involves a simple practice of being ready at the start of each class by having out materials and sitting quietly in a defined position. It really helps when they are all sitting this way. I am always disappointed that some children have no interest in working for this recognition.
Some children thrive on earning this award. I tend to see the same names each week. Could you encourage your child to earn their name on the list as a matter of pride and earning extra computer time during recess?
The correct date for the African American presentation is February 22nd. The children should all have completed their book by now and be starting on their report and poster.
I am considering having a similar project with Native Americans before the year is out. They are in my opinion, definitely a culture that does not get enough national recognition.
Have a great week!!!

Mr. D.

Science: How are animals different from each other?
Parents,
As I am writing this, I am in the process of our parent teacher-student conferences. I am excited how the children are involved in the conferences and discussing their goals. I hope you find the experience rewarding, also. Halloween:
1. No weapons
2. No excessively scary costumes
3. No blood
We will have an afternoon party. If you send treats, can you go low on the sugar? (Muffins?) There will already be wild enough costumes on active kids. It would be great if someone wanted to send in some juice.

If you do not know your Parent-Teacher conference time contact me. By sending the reports home with the children, I missed the opportunity to send the office copies. Dear Parents,
I’ve really enjoyed my first week with your children. They have been respectful and fun to be around. I look forward to a great year.
I have purchased plastic boxes and filled them with basic supplies for each student. I did not give them markers or colored-pencils. We have them in the classroom, but they are welcome to keep their own sets. One thing I ask is if you could all send a box of Kleenex for the class to use throughout the year? It would be greatly appreciated. Again, we need to stay in communication with each other. Educating a child is a team effort.
At this point, my Web Page has not been linked to the new Website for Northport. Meanwhile, you may still find it at www.mrdouglas4.weebly.com.
