Week of April 17 – April 21, 2017
4th Grade
Parents: Parents, we are embarking on a very crazy month of May. In addition to our normal work we have nine afternoons of assessments. Three are the NWEA, which are the source we use to collect and discuss our data to decide how best to help each individual student. The other six are the “State-Mandated” standardized tests the M-STEP.
We also have six afternoons of swimming lessons scheduled and our cherished year-end field trip to Mackinac Island on May 31st.
I am making a concentrated effort to assess and find “Holes in their Learning.” It is allowing me to reteach areas where the students are struggling, especially in math. Concepts some are struggling with are multiplying 2-digit numbers x 2-digit numbers. Most are getting it, but you may want to reinforce the process at home. Division of single digit numbers into 3 and 4 digits is our present concept to review. Remember to divide, multiply, subtract, and bring down.
Tests and homework schedules are difficult to stay faithful, because as I assess, I need to adjust my lessons to their needs.
A-Team: Olivia, Anthony, Gabe and Katherine
Student of the Week: Mr. Conner Sahs! You have so much untapped potential, Conner. I truly believe that you have the capability of making a positive impact in our world.
Concepts for the coming week
Math: Reviewing concepts from the year. (Division and Fractions)
Geometry: Triangles and angle measurement
Reading: “Treasure Island”
Writing: Character sketch for an adventure story

End-of-Year
Parents, I have taken numerous pictures over the course of this year. Some examples are The Christmas Program, Spring Concert, basketball, Halloween, Book Buddies, and class group pictures. Let me know if you would like some copies centered on your child. Send me your e-mail (in planner would be find) and I will work on this in the coming weeks. I have 3 requests so far. Mine is [email protected]
Our fantastic field trip was this past Thursday, June 2nd. Ask your child about the experience. They could not believe how many types of living creatures they found when scooping up samples of the bottom of the Lakes.
If you haven’t already, could you please purchase and send a poster board for your child to use in our project? They can be purchased at Tom’s Food Market, Meijer, Staples, and a number of other places that carry any office supplies. They should cost less than $1.00.
